Recent Buy --- GIS

Today I doubled my GIS position.

  • GIS:  70 shares @ $55.98 --- Yield  3.43%

Total capital invested is $3932.36 and will add $134.40 to my yearly dividends.

GIS continues to exhibit weakness and is now close to yielding 3.5%. After losing some income yesterday by virtue of the TIS cut, I'm glad to jump right back in and start making up the lost ground.

Forward dividends are around $8800.00

    1. Anonymous,

Thanks. I have a feeling it may. My next buy will probably be in the low 50s if it gets there.

  2. Nice buy!

SPX is around new high, but these boring stocks are dirt cheap. Not sure what are pushing the index to such a high level.

Anyway, keep up the good job!

    1. MU,

Thanks! Google, Apple, and Facebook certainly are pulling the wagon. I like that some boring companies like GIS and VZ are falling and giving us good value.

  3. Gah, I bought this a few weeks ago at $57! Great entry point MDP.

I might add another 50 if it keeps dropping.

    1. DC,

Don't worry about a few dollars here and there. It happens to every single one of us at one point or another. Keep investing!

  4. Nice buy. Thinking of picking some up myself. I placed a limit order for FLO today, but it didn't go through - it was down almost 4% for no apparent reason (at least i couldn't find one).

    1. ADY,

I sold out at FLO at $20 a couple of months ago, but wouldn't mind reentering at some point in the future.

  5. Good starting price. I have been following its downward trend this year, down 10% year to date. I think there is a bit more room for it to fall, will be watching it closely.

    1. DG,

I'm watching it closely and you are right about the potential for further weakness. The market as a who feels strange right now.

  6. Nice - I picked up a few shares myself today to start a position. Something I've had my eye on for a while and wanted to pick up as I get my portfolio off the ground. While it might fall a bit I thought it was a good entry point. Nice building block.

Great job with the purchase. Boring and fairly stable. This should be a good one for you.

    1. Lanny,

It's a blessing to see a stable food company falling in price. Chasing energy companies down can result in indigestion.

  9. Great to see a fellow shareholder! I initiated a position in GIS last month, stepped in at $58,83. It fell immediately further after that but what can you do, first dividends are already on their way this month. :)

There is nothing wrong with being in the game even if you get a few bruises. In the long run purchase like yours will pay off!

  11. Analyzed GIS a bit and its a really good place to park your money :) Altough bit stuck on growth in last years and bit heavy balance wity NetDebt/EBITDA near 3 and Equity bellow 25%. But company should do fine.
