December 2018 Dividends Received

Here are the dividends I received last month.

SO --- $61.20
LB --- $60.00
F --- $52.50
IBM --- $39.25
KHC --- $31.25
XOM --- $24.60

Total dividends received last month are $268.80 from my taxable account.

For the last 5 years I've only been including income from my taxable accounts on these monthly reports.  If  I had included mutual fund dividends from taxable and retirement accounts I would have received about $1900 during December.  I also have over $300 a month that I received from CDs.

Now that I am retired I and we are starting a new year. I am going to report all forms of passive income from all investment accounts except Lending Club. I have been letting those loans expire and have less than $3000 that is still scheduled to be repaid.

  1. MDP -

I am excited to see your full income report, and I think you should include a slice of the Lending Club, just to get the full picture.

    1. Lanny,

The most I ever had invested in LC was around 10,000. The return averaged around 8 percent net for the couple of years and I reinvested everything. I finally got board with keeping track of the bad loans and interest income. I probably just should have treated it like a CD. Put 10k in and see how much comes back after a few years and then determine my return.

May invest in the platform again in the future, but for now I'll stick with more traditional investments.

    1. BHL,

No problem at all. Hopefully I'll get back to 1000/month in passive income pretty soon.

  4. I agree with Lanny, you should definitely include the income from all sources so we can see your true income picture! Regardless, excellent month MDP.

    1. DD,

I appreciate it Bert. That is my plan going forward. My LC club portfolio has dwindled down to around 2300 so I'll let it keep fading away.

  5. Nice to see you posting again! How's the retired life treating you? I'm curious if most of your income is in retirement accounts, how are you paying for your living expenses with dividends? Anyways, congrats. I'm also letting my Lending Club account expire. I'll check back to see what's going on over here. Have a great 2019!

    1. AAI,

Retired life is even better than I could have imagined! Good question about the budget. I receive about $10,000 a year from dividends and interest and have about 6 years of cash in CDs. They are currently earning 2.25% which isn't great, but I get to keep a large safety net to weather prolonged stock market downturns.

The worst case scenario is a bear market in the early year(s) of early retirement and that is exactly what happened with the 20% correction at the end of 2018. Having a large cash cushion was a lucky break that in turn used to buy some more dividend stocks and continue sleeping well at night!

      Have a killer 2019 yourself!!

  6. It's nice to read something from the mighty MDP again. I always loved your attitude "DEFY MEDIOCRITY"! Good to know you're enjoying your retirement, you really deserve it!
And I hope you could use the market dip back in December for some nice buys, even with limited buying power?
Looking forward to your full income report!
