Weekly Sharebuilder Purchases

Here are my automatic investments for this week.

  • BP:  6.51 shares @ $38.42 --- Yield  6.25%
  • RDS-b:  3.56 shares @ $69.94 --- Yield  5.38%
  • CVX:  2.21 shares @ $112.94 --- Yield  3.79%
  • XOM:  2.68 shares @ $92.92 --- Yield  2.97%

Total capital invested is $1000 ($250 in each company) and the combined yield is 4.60%. These purchases will add $45.98 to my yearly dividends.

Three yards and a cloud of oil.....and a very looooong YAWN.

After last week's minor mishap with Sharebuilder I am back on the oil train.  I must admit that I am getting a bit tired of buying energy companies, but that is where I believe some great long term value lies.

Building my positions in these companies and dripping them should create some serious long term wealth along with a great source of future dividend income. It's kind of like a boring offense in football that just keeps grinding forward, moving the ball down the field a few yards at a time with each play. Slow steady forward progress is what these companies should deliver over time. There will probably be some more bumps and bruises along the way, but I will continue with great resolve going forward!

At the end of the day, putting points of the board (ie dividends) is the name of the game. There may not be much excitement from a fan's/investor's perspective, but I will patiently await the results that will take place over the next 30-40 years.

Could these companies be trading 20-30% lower over the next several months? Obviously I don't have any crystal ball, but if they are I plan on continuing to "hold my nose" and keep buying. The thought of someday receiving $5000-$6,000 a year in dividends from these companies is incredibly exciting.

Stocks on my radar for next week include the four purchased this week along with VZ, T, IBM, BA, and PM.

  1. I like the buy and will be continuing to dip my toes into energy over the coming months. I actually picked up some XOM and PM today. I missed VZ and T at their lows earlier this month, and will move on them should they return there.

Thanks for keeping us up to speed on your investments.

    1. W2R,

Good pick up on PM. I have been watching it drift lower for a while and am tempted to pick up a few more shares. Energy continues to look attractive and may become more attractive in the coming months.

  2. That's the way to do it MDP. Slow and methodically. I think the share price of the supermajors should be lower, but I agree they are one of the few pockets of value I currently see. Here's hoping for a more volatile 2015. Good luck and Happy New Year

    1. Bryan,

Yeah I was probably a bit eager to add to energy during the past couple of months, but I am going to continue building my positions at the current levels and obviously lower.

  5. Nice purchases. I have been adding oil stocks as well recently (COP and BP). The stocks have bounced back around 10% from their lows earlier in the month, but are still providing great value. I am also adding BBL the last few weeks as well.

    1. DGJ,

I have noticed you buying BBL recently. I also like that you are buying JNJ and Pepsi. I need to add to my Pepsi position and start one in JNJ.

  6. Boring purchases are the best! After cutting myself free from the drama that is ARCP, I want nothing but boring in my portfolio for a while.

Here's hoping for more volatility in 2015. Happy New Years!

  7. MDP,

It's all good if it's boring investing and pumping into energy stocks. Like you said - It's going to be awesome when each of these companies are paying you 4 figures. 2015 just happened and it's time we start attacking out the gate! Hope you have those running shoes on, as I know you have some big goals with the fitness area. Congrats on the purchases above and keep it going.
