Stock bought: JNJ

Today I purchased more shares of JNJ with the proceeds from my mutual fund sale.

  • JNJ:  50 shares @ $99.01 --- Yield  2.83%

Total capital invested is $4957.49. This purchase will add $140.00 to my yearly dividends. Including today's purchase I now have a total of 63.49 shares.

I was also considering adding to KO or PG, but ultimately went with JNJ because of the better valuation and lower share count.

    1. DH,

You said it buddy! I am anxious to keep adding to high quality companies over and over again. The thought of receiving a $300 dividend check from JNJ a few years down the road is awesome. Keep hustlin' away and building your portfolio!

Thanks, man. JNJ may drift down some more, but that is ok. I would love to add more shares down the road at even lower prices.

I agree. I have been adding shares around $100 in small increments for a couple of months now and would love to keep adding even more especially if the price falls some more.

  4. MDP,

Nice move. JNJ is my favorite company, as evidenced by it being my largest holding. Hard to go wrong owning this one.

    Best wishes!

    1. DM,

Shame on me for not adding shares before this year. It is a bit like PG and CLX in that it never really seems cheap. If the price falls further, I will gladly add more shares. In fact, I don't see myself ever selling any shares at any time in the future.

The furnace demands more coal and I will gladly keep shoveling it in to keep this train rolling down the tracks to FI. You can bet on it!

The day I stop buying will be the day I start living off the dividends. That is still a few years away.

A better price would be fantastic. Whenever the price falls, it doesn't usually stay down for long. Hopefully be both can pick up some shares in the future.

  8. MDP,

HOLY CRAP - 50 shares? That's awesome and great way to build on your shares obviously. Nice way of adding $140 and picking up more than 1 full share per year with this purchase alone upon reinvestment. Congrats and great stock.

I love your statement about Dripping this company. I bought it through Sharebuilder so I will certainly take advantage of the free reinvestment program.

Thanks for the comment. I freed up some capital reducing my mutual fund holdings and I am glad to add shares of this high quality company.

    1. Bryan,

I hope you get your entry point. I would love to buy more shares at or below $95. Will it get there? Who knows. I remember thinking Clorox was high at $90 a year ago and now it's north of $110

  13. JNJ has been a great stock to keep purchasing over the past few months. It keeps going sideways and at a reasonable valuation.

    Great purchase, keep it up!

You are right about it going sideways. It seems like I have been buying at or around $100 for months now. Hopefully it goes lower. :-)

  14. JNJ is always a great company to add to. Would love to see it dip down to $96ish and then I'll nibble a bit more. I really need to get more capital flowing to my portfolio again although I might be able to swing some ESPP share sales if the price recovers a bit.

    1. PIP,

You will crank it up again I have no doubt about it. Your plate is full and quite honestly I don't know how you juggle everything in your life. Your efforts are truly amazing. I also would agree that JNJ in the mid to low 90s would be fantastic. I don't know if it will happen or not. I am still waiting for Clorox to fall back to the 90s and Pepsi to fall back to the 70s. These companies rarely give you great buying opportunities. I will be watching though.

Thanks, my friend. I plan on this being one of the top three largest positions in my portfolio when all is said and done. Hopefully lower entry points await us in the future!

  16. Nice move, and interesting timing - I looked at buying JNJ earlier today but wasn't able to as the trading app on my phone kept crashing. I like JNJ long term and I think it's definitely got room to grow

Fortunately I sit in front of a desktop computer most of the day, so I am able to make trades with relative ease. I am glad to add more to what will eventually be one of my largest positions.

  17. Nice! JNJ was one of the first purchases I made when I did an IRA rollover with my old 403b. I did it this past month and slowly entering into positions every week. May not be a big as your purchases, but I say slow progress is better than no progress!

    1. Ron,

I have been adding to JNJ in small intervals as well. Usually around $100. This is the first large purchase I have made in the company. Slow progress will still get you to you destination faster than the guy sitting on the couch. Keep up the good work!

  19. 50 shares is a great purchases. I have been adding JNJ as part of my weekly purchases and have built a small position so far. Will continue to add more as long as the price stays around or less than $100. Meanwhile, I am adding KO, T and WMT lately for my weekly purchases as I build those positions. Also looking forward to add to PEP and BBL as well if price and capital permits.
