DOW 21,000 --- TGT Purchase

Wow the market is on FIRE today up 300 points and TGT is still falling....

  • TGT:  40 shares @ $57.68 --- Yield  4.16%

Total capital invested is $2314.07 and will add $96.00 to my yearly dividends.

It's been 3 weeks since I have made a purchase and have really been scratching my head trying to find something to buy... PM @ $110, AAPL @ $140, BA @ $184, JPM @ $93, or maybe the prison REIT GEO @ $49 (I believe this has tripled from $16 during the last few months lmao).  Crazy shit!

No...fortunately Target is bumbling and stumbling it's way back down the mountain and now yields a ridiculous 4%. Amazon and Walmart are punishing this company right now, but TGT usually adapts and overcomes its trials. We'll see.

My share count now exceeds 120 and I'll probably hold off adding more unless God forbid it falls into the 40s and start yielding 5% :-)

Forward dividends are around $7400.00

  1. Your dividend empire is growing very fast. Crazy that your forward dividends are already back to $7,400. Seems like just yesterday when you were starting from zero.

    1. GYFG,

Yep! Things are ramping up nicely. I would love for a big pull back in the markets. Of course people have been waiting 5 years when the Dow was at 11k for the elusive pull back. I'll just keep investing here and there in the mean time.

  2. Bought some today myself. I hesitated because I had 250 shares, but what the fuck. In for a penny, in for a pound. I hope mgt knows what it's doing.

    1. I just bought some a month ago. I like the higher dividend with the price falling. I will probably wait for the stock to fall lower before I will add more. Great purchase.

I think your thinking! Keep throwing coal into the fire and chasing bargains!

    3. DM,

Good luck getting a better entry point. I'll probably stay on the sidelines with TGT for a while and build up some of my other positions.

  3. I think I'm gonna head down this road tomorrow. Hoping it dips a little more in the morning after this big market rally.

    1. DS,

Crazy how the Dow is at 21k and TGT is back in the 2013/2014 levels. 4% and hopefully a plan to right the ship!

  4. The opportunities are definitely few and far between. I'm tempted to add some more TGT to my portfolio. They definitely got crushed and seemed to just be wandering along without a real plan to execute. Hopefully the mis-steps of the last year will really focus management to turning the ship around. I'll probably play TGT by selling a put option rather than an outright purchase, but I need to scope out the options. All the best.

    1. PIP,

Maybe selling $50 puts to be on the safe side! I think most of the damage is done, but a lot of retailers are in death spirals. I don't think that is the case with TGT.

    2. I went with a short term $57.5 put and might look to open up another one depending on how things develop over the next week or so.

  5. I was placing an order on TGT today too, but I bid too low the order didn't get filled. I like the 4.xx% yields. TGT and WMT might see blood bath when Donald Trump raising the border taxes.

    1. vivianne,

If businesses live and die based on taxes and tariffs they aren't really running a business. The real problem is execution and brutal competition. I think how TGT responds to those challenges will dictate the future results.

  6. TGT is just getting hammered. I added some yesterday also and might add some more, these opportunities don't come very often.

Great job finding some value in a crazy market. Take a deep breath and just keep investing.

  7. The buys keep coming in! You and many others have jumped on the carnage that is TGT. Buy when others are selling right? Great current yield too after that stock drop. Thanks for sharing.

    1. DivHut,

Smooth seas don't create value. The choppy boat rocking seas are where the bargains typically are. Of course a few ships get lost along the way as well. :-)

  8. I grabbed 100 shares a few days ago. You got a better price though. There's not many value options out there right now, I figured TGT at a discount works for me.

You and me both, bud! It's hard to find decent value out there right now and luckily I had a relatively small position. Keep building your positions and hopefully you'll get back to posting your buys again. I miss them!!

    2. Thanks MDP. I did continue investing weekly, portfolio is up to date - I just did not post the purchases. Maybe I'll do that again at some point :)

    1. DS,

We've all been there and we'll be there again. Don't worry too much about it, just keep adding shares of companies as you see value.
