September 2014 Passive Income

Here is the summary of my passive income and purchases that I made during the month of September.  Beginning this month, I will only list my taxable dividends and interest as this will be what funds my FI.  Dividends and interest from my retirement accounts will be logged on my dividend spreadsheet and income tabs.  Eventually I will use the income from these accounts, but that will occur many years after I leave the workforce.

All in all this was a good solid income month.  My forward dividend/interest is now approximately $13,200 so I am pleased with my progress.  I now feel confident that I can reach my year end goal of $14,500 in forward passive income.

Thanks buddy. It's been a 10 year plan in the making The dividend investing part has been the last piece of the puzzle. Still a few more years to go.

  2. Holy mother of all things good... nothing like putting in a year's worth of capital for some folks in a single month, even if they did come from the mutual fund sales. Another 16 months of this and you will have no issue crossing the $20k mark for dividends received in 2016!

    1. W2R,

Yeah, this month's capital is a bit misleading since, as you mentioned, most of the money came from my mutual fund sale. I'm hoping for 20k going into 2016. We'll see what happens. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Wow great looking numbers. Over $1500 per month in dividend income? I would be thrilled to get that amount in the next 5 years. $13,200 forward looking dividend is great.

  5. MDP,

    HUGE numbers. That's good stuff!

I'd be very, very happy with over $1,500 in dividend income. Not much to dislike here, my friend. Keep up the fantastic work. :)

And good for you for putting that capital to work right away. I can imagine that was a bit tough to just start putting out there. I've gotta imagine it was tough to maybe not keep some of that on the side.

    Best wishes.

    1. DM,

Thanks, my friend. Yeah, I'm not big on market timing. I'd rather put capital to work when I have it, in good markets and bad alike!

H O L Y S H * * is all I have to say. Nice job crossing $1,500 in dividend income for the month. You will Crush $14,500 going into 2015, with no problem at all, probably will be more towards $15,000. Are you reinvesting dividends? Nice job MDP, keep grinding.

  11. MDP,

Congrats on a great month for dividends! You put to work a lot of fresh capital, over 20k, wow!

I have a question for you. I was really close on buying some MAT but decided to average down on ESV instead. I did sell a put though. My concerns with MAT are that kids keep choosing electronics over traditional toys. MAT also hasn't had any blockbuster ideas in a while. I think HAS has the rights to the Star Wars toys for the new upcoming movie which I think could be huge. I'm not convinced MAT can turn things around. They are paying a very nice dividend to wait and see what happens though. What are your thoughts?

    1. AAI,

I view MAT as a mature cash cow company, much like a tobacco or utility. When it was trading around $48 and had a PE at 20, it was valued as a growth company. Now at a 13 PE and 5% yield, I feel it is more fairly valued. This one won't make you rich, but the risk has been removed in my opinion.

    1. DivHut,

Good question. Next year I plan on tapering the purchases and rebuilding my emergency fund. I would love to get to 20k in passive income, but the hours at work are exhausting and I will probably cut back some next year.
