I initiated a position in MDT today.
- MDT: 60 shares @ $72.38 --- Yield 2.38%
Total capital invested is $4349.63 and will increase my dividends by $103.20.
The yield isn't overly impressive, but with only a 37% payout ratio there is plenty of room for future growth. Also there is over 35 years of dividend growth history. Pretty impressive!!
The DJIA is now just 25 points away from 20,000. What an amazing year!!

Forward dividends are around $5250.

i sold off some of my portfolio couple months ago but gold is starting to get interesting around these levels you ever think about throwing some cash toward metals ?
ReplyDeleteAG,
DeleteI own some jewelry and that is about the extent of my metal position. I prefer to invest in income producing assets. There certain can be opportunities especially right now in things like gold. They make for good insurance policies as well when the economy goes south.

MDP -
ReplyDeleteSolid purchase and great dividend aristocrat there, that's for sure. Massive position, as well, at 60 shares - celebrating Christmas a little early? Christmas ALL YEAR LONG with these purchases. Keep it up and keep going hard.

DeleteFrom a dividend yield perspective, isn't a ETF like DVY a better alternative? Not as much growth, but potentially more stable dividends.
ReplyDeleteNo worries about commissions at Fidelity, and no capital gains as you should never have to sell based on a companies performance.
NNL,
DeleteDVY is a great EFT. In fact, I owned 100 shares throughout 2013-2015. I would have no problem buying and holding again at some point. Most of the companies I own are part of the ETF, the only difference is I don't have to pay yearly fees.
