Getting Defensive --- KO

I had a limit order filled today and added another 50 shares of KO.

  • KO:  50 shares @ $39.99 --- Yield  3.50%

Total capital invested is $2006.45 and will add an additional $70 to my yearly dividends.

This purchase pushes me just over 210 shares. Adding KO add a 3.5% yield is never a bad idea!

In other news, I am SERIOUSLY considering selling my GS shares that I bought several months ago at $140 and I see the shares are currently over $220. Other non traditional dividend companies I own that I might dump are M, MET, and GM. They are all way up off their lows and I am up 30-60% in the last few months.

I don't normally look at precious metals, but they have been totally destroyed during the last few months and might be a nice speculative play.

Just a few things on my mind.... :-)

Forward dividends are $5050.

  1. Hi! I just found your blog and find it very inspiring. I am wondering, do you have a post anywhere that outlines your methodology for picking which stocks to buy, and at what prices? If not, would you care to elaborate on that?

    Thanks!

    1. Steve,

I wish I could say I had some sort of criteria or mechanism when picking and buying stocks, but I don't. I can tell you that I use Dow Dogs (high yielding DJIA stocks) and I tending to watch the bottom performing DJIA components as well (NKE comes to mind currently).

Also, I look at my own portfolio and add to existing positions as I feel they become undervalued. KO is a perfect example so I added to it.

  2. Nice. Coke is just fabulous; as close as you get to the perfect business. I almost doubled my PepsiCo position today, would love to do the same with KO below $40.

    1. Mike,

I am looking at Pepsi and other consumer products companies as well. PG and JNJ have got to be added at some point soon!

  3. Nice pick up. Like UL, KO under $40 is a much better price to add to your portfolio. Pretty solid current yield too. Thanks for sharing.

    1. DivHut,

I couldn't agree more. In fact I have added both recently at prices just below $40.

    1. Lanny,

My Asics are laced up and ready for the track! I'm going to try for $6k this month. The market will have some impact on whether I make it or not. I would love to see KO, CSCO, and PG to come continue their slides so I can go strong into them.
