Recent Sell --- FLO

I just had a $20 limit order executed and I sold my entire position of FLO today.

  • FLO:  120 shares @ $20.01 --- Yield  3.2%

Total proceeds from this transaction are $2393.65 and my yearly dividends will be reduced by $76.80.

I originally purchased the shares back in September for $14.62 and I planned on adding to the position, but as many stocks have done over the past couple of months the shares got away from me. When the yield was in 4.5% range, FLO seemed like a steal, but now it's just another 3% yielder and quite frankly I am happy to take the 37% gain and redeploy into another better quality 3% yielder.

Forward dividends are back around 5k. I have some work to do in the next few weeks.

  1. MDP - Just goes to show that for every seller there is a buyer. Like you, I bought much lower ($14.52). Unlike you, I am looking to add. Was all set to buy this morning and it popped 5%. May hold off for a bit to see if it comes back. You have a made a nice return on your purchase, and hopefully you can find another winner to purchase with the proceeds!

    1. DOD,

Yes! That is what makes a market. Great job buying low. I really have no idea where I am going next with my purchases. Hell if FLO falls to 17 tomorrow I might buy back my shares LMAO. In all seriousness, I am eyeing more consumer staples and hope to find some bargains in PG, UL, and KO.

  2. I'll be holding my shares. I can't fault anyone for selling shares for a nice profit however. Good trade MDP.

    1. Captain,

Yeah, it was a tough decision. Seeing the big move up in GS and FLO gave me an itchy trigger finger. I'm also thinking about selling M and MET. We'll see how it goes.

  3. I'm holding for now. But I will lose 100 shares tomorrow on a covered call that went sideways. I'll be at two hundred shares then.

    1. IH,

Those covered calls can be tricky sometimes. When they spike up you are sitting on a big loss. When the shares drop you earn your premium, but may lose 3 or 4 times the premium on the share decline. Best of luck with the other 200 shares.

  4. Wow - that's a big gain. I added this to my list when it dropped into the $15 range but forgot to ever follow up on it and it's a surprise to see it back at $20 that quickly. Good short term gain on this one.
