Recent Buys --- XOM, UPS, WBA, & DOW

Today I added some to positions.

  • DOW:  25 shares @ $39.98 --- Yield  7.00%
  • XOM:  20 shares @ $51.36 --- Yield  6.78%
  • UPS:  11 shares @ $90.47 --- Yield  4.47%
  • WBA:  22 shares @ $45.89 --- Yield  3.99%

Total capital invested is $4,031.30 and the combined yield is 5.56%.  These purchases will add $224.30 to my yearly dividends.

I may be jumping in a bit early, but I need to replace the lost income from selling all the stocks in my old E-trade account. Today was a good day to buy as the S&P 500 is down 10% in the past week.

I almost pulled the trigger on MO and Shell, but still believe the yields will reach 10% soon. I also refrained from buying CCL and WFC as they look like traps to me right now. I will be watching them closely along with the above four companies. Other stocks that look appealing and dangerous are OXY, LYB, and BBL.

Hopefully JNJ and PEP will drop 25% in the coming weeks so I can buy them instead :)

January 2020 Passive Income

Here is the passive income I received from both taxable and retirement accounts.

Taxable Account

  • Amegy CD --- $386.68
  • MO --- $88.20
  • PM --- $70.20
  • M --- $37.75
  • CL --- $29.24
  • BND --- $2.19

Retirement Account

  • 65/35 S&P 500/Bonds --- $221.23

Total January 2020 passive income is $804.06

CD income continues to drop as interest rates have fallen in the past year as well as reducing my CD portfolio by $50k. My dividend income also was a bit lower as I haven't completely reinvested all of the proceeds of my CD money.

I still plan on at the very least maintaining the same passive income level this year as I had last year. I may increase it a tad, but it would not be too big of an increase.

Steady as she goes...

January 2020 Net Worth

All figures except my Jeep value are generated from Mint.com.

Well damn...The month of January was rocking along with the markets hitting new highs and then BAM!!! The last day of the month saw a 600 point drop in the DJIA and all of a sudden the market was flat for the month. I was really hoping to hit another new record high in my net worth.

Oh well, there is always next month.

My portfolio basically was flat with a small 3k decline due to writing down my Jeep and accounting for regular living expenses.

Oddly my 401k balance was actually 2k. Maybe the S&P registered a slight gain along with a gain in my bond component (65/35 S&P/bonds).

I'm closing in my 2 Year FIRE Anniversary and it feels good seeing a gain in net worth. It shouldn't be surprising, but short term volatility can bounce things around for sure.

It's pretty wildly known that the markets typically gain 9%/year and that's what I'm counting on to maintain a slow growing net worth. However my first two years were -7% and +31%. It all works out over time, but it does get rocky sometimes. I'm sure the election year will be calm 😁

I hope everyone else had a great January!!

Here is my net worth summary from December/2019 ending totals.
