March 2020 Passive Income

Here is the passive income I received from both taxable and retirement accounts.

Taxable Account

  • Amegy CD --- $360.97
  • ABALX --- $251.26
  • XOM --- $227.07
  • DOW --- $56.00
  • WBA --- $51.24
  • IBM --- $48.60
  • RDSb --- $39.48
  • MMM --- $30.87
  • CCL --- $25.00
  • JNJ --- $19.00
  • KHC --- $16.00
  • BND --- $6.22

Retirement Account

  • 65/35 S&P 500/Bonds --- $1544.55

Total March 2020 passive income is $2676.26.

Another solid passive income month. I'm still building up the portfolio and working around a volatile market with extreme bargains and traps everywhere. I just noticed BP will continue its dividend, but many others have cut or reduced payouts.

The coming months will be interesting from an investment and human health perspective. Keep fighting everyone and stay safe.

Recent Purchase

Today I added to my BP position.

  • BP:  50 shares @ $22.18 --- Yield  11.27%

Total capital invested is $1,109 and will increase my yearly dividends by $125.00.

It's hard to ignore the majors right now. After a huge move up during the last few weeks, the prices of XOM, BP, and Shell are becoming attractive again. I'm looking forward to hearing about earnings and guidance at month end.

March 2020 Net Worth

All figures except my Jeep value are generated from Mint.com.

The first quarter of 2020 will go down in the record books for sure. The S&P 500 fell hard and finished down again for March. The market lost 20% during the first quarter of 2020 which was devastating not only to stockholders, but the entire world as the entire economy has been halted. The Dow actually recorded its worst quarterly performance in history falling 23%.

More alarming is the spread of the Coronavirus which is killing tens of thousands so far and likely hundreds of thousands in the months to come. Hopefully the death toll doesn't reach the millions.

On the net worth front, mine took another hit falling $28,000 for the month of March and now is down almost $87,000 for the year. Buying heavy into beaten down stocks actually mitigated some of the damage done by the markets. At one point the markets were down close to 40% before rebounding during the last week.

My cash position is now down to around 60%. While I plan to keep buying undervalued companies, I'll be limited as I don't have any CDs up for renewal until year end and then again next July.

This may be to my advantage as it could prevent me from going to strong into a depression type stock market crash in the coming months. Who knows? The markets currently are down around 30% from the February highs. The 1930s stock market fell 89%

Be safe out there everyone!

Recent Purchase

Today I initiated a position in SPG.

  • SPG:  20 shares @ $46.71 --- Yield 17.98%

Total capital invested is $934.25 and will increase my dividends by $168.00

Obviously there is a lot of uncertainty in the markets right now and REITs of all kinds have been left for dead. This dividend is likely to be cut by 70-100% if we the plague continues to shut US business down. If things get back to normal soon, SPG along with all equities will bounce back quickly.

SPG was trading around $150 a few months back and close to $200 during the past year. This is a spec play and I don't plan to add more shares.

I also had a limit order put in for T at $27.00, but it stayed just above that level.

Recent Purchases

Today I added to my MO and WBA positions

  • MO:  20 shares @ $35.95 --- Yield  9.35%
  • WBA:  15 shares @ $39.68 --- Yield  4.61%

Total capital invested is $1,314.14 and the combined yield is 7.20%. These purchases will add $94.65 to my yearly income (assuming there are no cuts).

I really wanted to continue adding to energy companies, but they have been rallying hard off the lows from a couple of week ago. No worries though as there are bargains in every sector currently.  MO and WBA look pretty solid under $40. Hell they may end up under $30. There is no way to predict things right now.
