Brick by boring brick --- KO purchase

Today I doubled my position in Coke.

  • KO:  40 shares @ $43.59 --- Yield  3.21%

Total capital invested is $1750.51 and will add $56 to my yearly dividends.  My Coke share count is now 80 and will be churning out over $100 a year going forward. How cool is that?!

There is really no news coming from Coke recently. The stock is probably overvalued a bit, but the dividends are stable and increasing. I really like this type of company and will be adding shares year in and year out for decades to come.

I almost added shares of VIAB, but the shares spiked up on me. I may still add some shares hopefully closer to the $38 range. The pipeline is starting to come back nicely!!

Forward dividends are $3650.

  1. Nice purchase MDP. I would like to add more KO but it's one of my largest holdings. I am waiting for a small drop in price before adding more.

    1. Div Son,

I hope you get the price drop you and everyone else is looking for. I really thought as we got closer to the elections and the fear of higher rates would loosen the market up. No such luck so far.

  2. Great addition to your portfolio. Coke isn't going away anytime soon. So let them dividends just roll in!

    1. MD,

Coke is a beast. I have to add shares of Pepsi sometime as well.

  3. I have KO at a fair value of $39.50, so I agree with you that they're overvalued a bit. Nevertheless, I think this is a good buy of a great dividend growth stock! Years from now the price you paid won't matter that much!

    1. FerdiS,

I have PM valued at $80 as well, but these rascals aren't working with us. LOL Maybe later this year or early next year. The Jan-Feb months have been good times to invest in recent years. We'll see.

  4. You've got it right that KO is overvalued but the dividends are still strong and will continue to grow.

    1. PIP,

KO and damn near everything else as well. Oh well I'll keep dipping my toe in the waters until that big selloff that everyone keeps talking about.

  6. MDP,

You call it a boring brick, but it is a brick nonetheless and you need many to build your think - be it a house, wall, or a delicious pizza producing oven. That being said, the phrase reminds me of one of the few good parts of Home Alone 2 (strange, I know), where the one robber keeps getting club by falling bricks thrown by kid. Maybe be boring, but gravity always works.

    1. DG,

I love Joe Pesci!! Anyway I agree. Each brick added to the castle wall just makes it stronger.

  7. Solid stock MDP. I would love to add more KO. Build it up to a full position and hold for the next 40 years and even forever.
It's a stock worth the premium. We will probably have better entry point and if it gets to the 40 - 42 level, I will pick up 25k's worth.
Keep it up and don't ever stop! Cheers bro.

    1. DH,

$25K huh? Damn that would really be cool to see. I have a lot of work to do to get closer to your level! It will happen though! :-)

  8. It doesn't get more boring than KO but hey that's an awesome way to collect an income. Even a boring play like KO has an impressive yield by today's standard. Keep building that passive income stream "brick by brick."

    1. DivHut,

The yield is really solid for KO. The payout ratio is a bit high, but they seem prudent with the dividends and will most likely gradually increase the payout if the ratio stays too high.
