Weekly Sharebuilder Purchases

Here are my automatic investments for this week.

  • PM:  7.09 shares @ $84.45 --- Yield  4.74%
  • BBL:  10.07 shares @ $59.56 --- Yield  4.16%
  • MCD:  6.40 shares @ $93.54 --- Yield  3.46%
  • KO:  14.48 shares @ $41.44 --- Yield  2.94%
  • XOM:  6.18 shares @  $97.16 --- Yield  2.84%  (Initial position)

Total capital invested is $3000 ($600 in each company).  The combined yield on this week's purchases is 3.63% and will add $108.84 to my yearly dividends.

$100/week Challenge---Week 21   S&P 500:  1996

BBL continues to drift lower and really looks good over 4% yield.  I wanted to buy shares of MO, but it keeps surging so I opted to add to my PM position.  MCD is getting close to a full position and should receive a nice dividend raise in the next couple of weeks.  To balance out the high yielders I added some more shares of KO and started a new position in XOM.  I plan on adding more to XOM until it gets close to equal weight with CVX and ultimately with BP.

Note:  Several months back I mentioned that I wanted to reach $14,500 in forward dividends by the end of the year.  At the time I was tracking for maybe $12,800, so I needed to really ramp up purchases.  I am currently tracking $14,500 but I must continue increasing each week by at least $100.00.

I have been working six days a week, 10-11 hours a day for the past year.  I checked the math and I just realized that I will spend over 300 days this year at the office.  Hopefully the sacrifice will continue to pay...well you know....dividends.

  1. Solid group of purchases here, with BBL leading the group as far as I'm concerned. I think anywhere under $60 is a great entry price for them and am certainly hoping it stays low for a little while so I can scoop some up myself.

And while you're working crazy hours right now, it will absolutely pay off as you've really exploded your forward dividends this year. Heck, back in January you were sitting less than $9k of forward dividends. Amazing the increase you've made this year.

    1. W2R,

It has been a wild year no doubt. I am looking forward to reaching my goal this year, however next year I am going to slow down a bit and try to regain some better work/life balance.

  2. Nice purchases MDP. I also purchased KO along with PEP and AFL. I am going to be build my positions in PEP and KO slowly over a period of time. Hopefully, I can get good prices.

Congrats on coming back on track towards your goal of $14500. I also increased my goal for the year as it looked like I will be meeting those ahead of time. So that should keep me going for the rest of the year.

    1. DGJ,

I am glad to be a fellow shareholder in KO, PEP, and AFL with you. KO and AFL seem reasonable here and PEP keeps flying to the moon. I too would like to add a bit to each of these holdings.

Congrats on raising your year end goals! That is good stuff.

  3. Great pick up in BBL under $60...we also picked up a few shares for our family's dividend stocks portfolio. We are also fellow shareholders in MCD. We don't own others but they are on our watch list.

Keep up the awesome progress...I'm confident your OT at work will eventually pay off (literally). Glad to see your not blowing away those hard earned dollars! Best Wishes. AFFL

    1. AFFJ,

I saw that earlier. Good job picking up BBL. The OT is sometimes a bit overwhelming, but when you have an end game in mind, it makes it worth it. Keep your eyes on the goal!

    1. Fab,

Both your choices look very good. I jumped into ESV a bit early as my average cost is around $50, but that's ok as I will enjoy the divvy in the meantime. BP continues to look good here as well.

      Thanks for visiting and commenting!

  5. MDP,

Nice purchases here. And you're crushing that $100/week goal. Way to go!

They all look solid. That's a really nice starting portfolio all by itself, and you just scooped that up in a week.

    Keep up the great work!

    Best regards.

    1. DM,

Thanks my friend. The ultimate goal is to exit the rate race, like you have done yourself. Thanks for the encouragement and keep knocking 'em dead yourself!

  6. Thanks for the update and recent buys. However, one comment in your post really stood out for me, "I will spend over 300 days this year at the office." That's no life my friend. It's all about balance. I understand we all want FI and enjoy receiving our dividend, but at what cost? Travel, live, experience while you can. Too often you hear those stories of people saving and sacrificing only to lose health or die suddenly. Balance. Continue doing what you are doing, but also live. You are only your current age once in your life. Make the most of it instead of living in an office.

    1. DivHut,

You are 110% correct. Ironically a year ago I was trying to find a position within my company that would give me more freedom even possibly a sub 40 hour week. Then there was a massive disruption within the hierarchy and my boss was fired. Rather than deal with the chaos and uncertainty that comes with bringing an outsider to the fold, I volunteered to take the job knowing full well the compensation would be much better while the shackles would be tightened as well.

I am just now finishing up a vacation and I have been laser focused on trying to get out of this predicament within the next year or so. I really thought going in that I would just suck it up since it would expedite FI for me. I am not going to lie, it has been a brutal year. Fortunately a lot changes at work have been implemented so the work environment hopefully will continue to improve going forward.

Thanks for the perspective and the advice.
