New Purchases: SO, PG, & WMT

Today I reinvested the proceeds from my recent mutual fund sales.

  • SO:  50 shares @ $43.94 --- Yield  4.78%
  • PG:  25 shares @ $83.47  --- Yield   3.07%
  • WMT:  25 shares @ $79.16 --- Yield  2.48% (initial position)

Total capital invested is $6283.60 and the combined yield is 3.47% and will increase my yearly dividends by $218.00.

These are very boring companies that should have no problems making and increasing dividend payments for many years to come. I have been patiently waiting for WMT and SO back down to decent levels.

Walmart will be a nice complement to my TGT shares. SO, in my opinion, is a good substitute for the junk bond holdings I sold off and being taxed at 15% instead of 33% is a nice benefit as well.

Also, I apologize for so many posts recently. If I don't post things in real time, I am subject to forget about them and I am trying my best to update all portfolio puchases, sales, and dividend announcements in real time. I think this actually may be an OCD thing. So be it.

  1. MDP,

Awesome buys. I like all those positions. Don't apologize for real time updates, do what works for you. And when those updates are KMI increases, I think we can all be happy.

    1. DG,

Thanks and the KMI raise was extremely good news! Hopefully we get a couple more multi cent raises this year.

    1. Tawcan,

Thanks. I was actually redeploying my mutual fund proceeds. It looks like today may be another good day to add to positions.

  4. MDP,

I like how you stick with certain stocks that you then continue to add positions to (SO & PG), and essentially your relentless pursuit on doing it. I dig it and keep pushing the capital out.

    1. DH,

Sleeping well is a good thing although I have many positions that cause insomnia. :-) As far as the Hustler name goes, you have definitely earned the right to use it.

  6. Two out of the three buys are already in my portfolio. Great current yield between all the buys. Interesting picks considering not many are buying into these names currently. You either hear of energy names or some financial stocks being popular, in general of course. Thanks for sharing.

    1. DH,

Yeah I am certainly in the camp that has been adding energy names to my portfolio. It is good to take a break and find other sectors to invest in.

  7. Great purchases and welcome to WMT club. I hold TGT and WMT and have been adding WMT shares through weekly purchases. Like you mentioned, TGT and WMT will nicely complement each other.
I hold a small position in PG and would like to add more, but feel they are expensive at these levels. Hoping the P/E to drop to ~19 compared to where it is right now. Let's see with this upcoming results.

    1. DGJ,

That PE drop to 19 would be excellent. Hopefully it drops because of an increase in the E and not a decrease in the P. :-) I missed out buying WMT in the mid 70s last year so I am glad that I am getting a second opportunity to jump in.

    1. DD,

Thanks for the heads up on the article. I will be sure to check it out. I plan on adding a lot of PG, JNJ, KO, T, and XOM this year.
