Weekly Sharebuilder Purchases

Here are my automatic investments for this week.

  • CVX:  1.90 shares @ $105.11 --- Yield  4.07%
  • NOV:  4.09 shares @ $48.95 --- Yield  3.76%
  • XOM:  2.35 shares @ $84.97 --- Yield  3.27%

Total capital invested is $600 ($200 in each company).  The combined yield is 3.70% and these purchases will add $22.20 to my yearly dividends.

Energy companies continue to look attractive, however Shell and BP seem to be leaving some of the others behind. As a whole the market seems to keep grinding its way up and any pullbacks disappear quickly.

I think I will continue with lower weekly purchases in energy names and make the occasional larger purchase in a non energy sector to keep my diversification in check.

Companies on my radar for next week include the ones above along with CAT, BBL, ESV, and Shell.

  1. Glad to see you're making consistent purchases MDP. I like that as its a trait for success. Keep it up and enjoy the rest of the month. Later bud.

    1. DH,

Thanks for the encouragement. Yeah steady weekly, monthly, or quarterly investing will produce long term wealth. Your killing it on your side as well. Keep your head up and plowing the field ahead!

  2. Nice energy purchases MDP. I hold CVX and hoping to add more to average down. I am currently over 12% down on my purchase. Also planning to initiate position in NOV sometime soon.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. DGJ,

I too am down, but I will keep adding to my positions. Stay focused on adding more dividend income each week and you will thank yourself later for your efforts.

      Don't stop!

    1. DG,

Both look good now and more importantly 20 years from now I will still be enjoying the dividends they produce.

  5. Oil baron is right. I like the buys still nibbling away. My last sharebuilder buy was an addition to BBL earlier in the month. I know our Tuesday buys are batch orders but have you ever noticed that the buys seem to be always closer to the days high rather than the days low?

    1. RXSKI,

It does seem like the purchases go through at the high prices of the days, but I'm sure it averages out over time. Many times I pick up companies at the lows as well. I think it's just human nature that we focus on the high prices purchases and ignore the lower ones.

  6. MDP,

Nice work staying consistent with the weekly purchases. I think I dig the move, as you keep your fees down, with making smaller investments during these times consistently, as you're able to semi-capture pullbacks and small appreciation that occurs, instead of praying and hoping for the big dive and pouncing on it. Keep at it and keep building those positions.

    1. DD,

I plan on adding more coal to the furnace. I still am tweeking my investment strategies, but I like adding to energy while its down and may make larger purchases to diversify the portfolio.

    1. Tawcan,

Thanks. I like CVX and XOM both and since they are both underweight compared to Shell and BP I will likely continue adding to these while prices are low.

  8. Man, you are gonna have a great energy company dividend raises season coming up in a month or so here.

    Looking into CAT here too.

    1. Dan,

I certainly hope you are right. It has been a bit dicey hanging out in the energy side of the pond. These are long term plays for me so even small raises are fine as they navigate through lower oil prices. I don't see BP or Shell raising dividends anytime soon, but they have great yields already. CAT looks really good and I have added to it several times this year.

  9. Great energy buys with some nice current yield too. Not too many have been buying energy in recent weeks in earnest but I guess they still represent great values compared to many other names in the market. Thanks for sharing.

    1. DivHut,

I am still a tad overweight in energy, but with recent acquitisions of PM, TD, JNJ, and CAT, I feel ok adding more energy to the portfolio right now.

  10. Seems like a lot of my purchases are energy too (seems like most dividend growth investors are)...I have to keep reminding myself that a few years back it seemed that all my purchases were banking and insurance and I WISH I would have invested more! Buy what the market hates

    1. Evan,

No doubt about it. I am going to continue to add to my energy position and will probably add to an already overweight position in PM.
