I just made VZ one my top 4 positions.
- VZ: 100 shares @ $45.28 --- Yield 5.12%
Total capital invested is $4541.61 and will increase my yearly dividend by $232.
VZ and T have both been falling quite a bit, but VZ is dropping much faster. Today's purchase makes VZ my fourth largest position behind PFE, XOM, and KO. Any future telecom purchases will probably be T shares. My original intention was to reach $10,000 in forward dividends by the end of the year. I will most likely reach this goal in June.
Forward dividends are now around $9350.

ReplyDeleteAny concern with Verizon's services? Hoping for a buyout at some point? Would love to hear what you think sir. Whallop of a purchase.

Lanny,
DeleteDefinitely. I think VZ is biting off more than it may be able to chew, T as well with recent acquistions. Sometimes you can focus too much on expansion at the expense of core customers and business. I did notice that VZ picked up subscribers with its unlimited date plan last quarter. That should help in the long run I believe. Profit may be squeezed a bit though.

I'm interested to keep watching Verizon, I currently don't hold a position, I'm a bigger fan of AT&T, but if these levels keep going lower, I may have to jump on board, yield is getting enticing.
ReplyDeleteDS,
DeleteI like AT&T better as well, but VZ looks cheaper. Probably for good reason. I would love to add more share of T below $40 and will be watching it closely.

VZ is a nicr buy houever they are a bit laveraged, but that is common in telecomunication sector. T is lavereged bit less but after TW will be also heavy on balance. But yield is nice :)
ReplyDelete2035,
DeleteHighly leveraged with fierce competition and slow growth!! :-) That's why the yield is where it is. Hopefully they make strategic purchases and continue battling with T for telecom supremacy.

Very nice, I love following your journey, you are doing really well lately. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteBHL,
DeleteI'm definitely out of hibernation!

I have been thinking about getting into VZ myself. Nice yield. But, I don't like their expensive service. I used to have VZ before switching to Fi (T before that). I guess i could initiate a small position. A buyout seems possible.
ReplyDeletedG,
DeleteBoth are good widow and orphans companies. Competition is strong, but the infrastructure advantages of T and VZ are almost railroad-like.
MDP
That is an awesome buy. I have T already but VZ is always on the watch list. Both have been dropping lately, giving them more value. With a dividend yield of over 5% it's an easy decision to buy.
ReplyDeleteDD,
DeleteYeah it's crazy how low VZ has gotten recently. This is the highest yield I've seen since around 2011. I need to add more shares of T and if it drops to around $35 or so I will likely add more.
