Here we go again....HCP Purchase

Today I added to my HCP and it is now my largest individual stock position.

  • HCP:  100 shares @ 37.46 --- Yield  6.03%

Total capital invested is $3752.95 and my yearly dividends will increase by $226.00.

I'm now just under $1000 a year in forward HCP dividends.

Wow!!! Talk about falling knives all over the place. Holy shit between REITs and Oil I am going to have to keep a bottle of Crown here at the office. Well we (we meaning me) all wanted volatility, well here it is.

Oil, REITs, utilities, and tobacco are in my crosshairs....or maybe I'm in theirs???

  1. MDP,

You sir are the definition of fearless. Congrats on what should be a great long-term pickup. We are hoping prices remain at these levels until next week so we have some more dry powder to throw into these names. We appreciate you sharing your purchase and for making us laugh a bit this morning.

    All the best.

    1. FD,

There is a fine line between fearless and reckless. At times I travel on both sides of it. I hope you get your entry point next week. I have a feeling like oil last year, REITs will give us multiple opportunities to buy.

I'm glad I could provide some humor. :-)

    1. FF,

Congrats on the WPC. I probably should have added to that as it is a much smaller position. I just really like and feel more comfortable with HCP. We'll see how it goes.

    1. Hustler,

I am just trying (unsuccessfully) to keep up with you. I agree that the investments we make today will bring us years of dividends that we will be thankful for. Keep fighting hard over there!

  4. Pipeline, that's a serious amount of HCP. My total worth in HCP is just under $1000, about same what you have in forward dividends! But 30 years of rising dividends. Let's hope they are able to keep the streak alive!

    1. Dividend Lord,

No worries about your HCP totals. Just keep fighting hard and adding to your portfolio.

  5. Talk about some good buys recently. It's great when we can take advantage of market drops. It seems like rising interest rates are to blame for lower REIT prices. The hike that's coming will be like 25 pts which IMO is a non issue. Seems like over reaction as usual.

    1. ADY,

I agree with you about the over reaction. I love these types of panics even though it can give me indigestion for a little while. These are the moments I look forward to as I am sure you do as well.

  6. HCP, OHI, WPC, O... these are all very popular right now and every whiff of an interest rate hike sends them lower. That makes me wonder what kind of drop REITs will sustain when the hike is actually announced and not speculated.

I bit on some OHI last month at $35 (my first buy into them) and it finally broke below that level today with a huge 3% drop. Now I waffle on whether to wait or go after more REITs now (I own all of the above mentioned REITs except for HCP)

Either way, your conviction is strong. Keep it up!

    1. DWC,

It's beginning to feel a lot like the summer and fall of 2013. REITs are getting hit hard as well as utilities and telecoms. I don't even have to mention what continues to exist within the energy space. I actually think this is an overshoot to the downside and a 1/4 point rate increase should not create this kind of sell off. I could be wrong so we'll see how this plays out. If the dividends remain in tact, then I will just continue to get paid while I wait.

  7. That's a Texas sized forward dividends total! You're killing it!
I bought HCP a couple of weeks ago. I am seriously considering averaging down if it dips more.

    1. DivSon,

This will probably be my last HCP purchase for a while even if there is further weakness. It is very large position and I will have to add other companies to balance it out. Oil and REITs are causing my portfolio to become too lopsided. I do hope you get your lower price though.
