Recent Buy --- MAT & GE

Today I doubled my MAT and GE positions.

  • MAT:  100 shares @ $21.98 --- Yield  6.92%  (SPECULATIVE)
  • GE: 100 shares @ $29.59 --- Yield  3.24%

Total capital invested is $5170.69 and the combined yield is 4.80%. These purchases will add $248.00 to my yearly dividends.

I took a risk with my TIS purchase earlier and am using the same line of thinking with MAT. THis is a deep value play and hopefully it pans out. Regardless of future price movements this will be my last MAT purchase until I see some concrete evidence of a turnaround.

GE on the other hand is a position that I will keep building.

Forward dividends are $8775.00

  1. Mattel's dividend and share price has been all over the place over the history of 10 years. I hope they can find a way to steady the ship and continue to slowly increase dividends. Cheers

    1. BHL,

Yeah, I'm not 100% sold on the long term prospects, but the yield is great if it holds. If it is cut, there may be a capital gain opportunity. Either way, I'll be watching it closely.

  2. Another situation where you and I made the same purchases, although you got yours a little cheaper. I did load up on Verizon though, in a month that sorely needs the love. Keep crushing it Big Guy!

    1. Anonymous,

I was super close to buying VZ myself. VZ & T were on my watch list yesterday for sure!

  3. MDP -

Interesting buy with MAT! I own them, still, but how much cost can they keep slashing? What do you think will be the outcome going forward with them, here??

    1. Lanny,

I'm probably chasing a falling knife here, but no risk no reward. It worked for TIS last week so we'll see with MAT. Both have unsustainable dividends and may just be deep value plays. We'll see!

  4. Sometimes those speculation plays turn into money makers other times you are left holding a worthless stock. Can't find out if you don't take the risk

    1. d&H,

EXACTLY! With a balanced portfolio you can afford to take some risks, knowing that the other positions will keep working while things sort themselves out.

  5. GE looks solids as ever. MAT I am not sure. It was trading @ 42 sometime ago. Toys are always good for investing in.

    1. dG,

Revenues are horrible. Turnaround or takeover?? Hopefully one of those two.
