Weekly Purchases

Here are my automatic investments for this week.

  • RDS-b:  4.57 shares @ $54.68 --- Yield  6.88%
  • BBL:  6.80 shares @ $36.76 --- Yield 6.75%
  • BP:  6.43 shares @ $38.89 --- Yield  6.17%
  • CVX:  2.67 shares @ $93.57 --- Yield  4.57%

Total capital invested is $1000 ($250 in each company). The combined yield of these purchases is 6.09% and will add $60.09 to my yearly dividends.

I knew it would be ugly in the oil space after watching the futures while getting ready for work. I thought that when I checked on my portfolio it would be really bad, but was surprised to find that utilities and REITs are actually performing well today.

I don't know that I have seen Shell, CVX, or BBL with yields this high ever. Iran and Greece are definitely sending shockwaves through the markets. XOM is about to be trading in the 70s and NOV looks like it is in a "death spiral" and may be trading in the 30s pretty quickly.  I LOVE IT!!!

Companies on my radar for next week include anything related to the energy and Canadian banking sectors as well as KO, WMT, GM, INTC, and DD.

  1. MDP,

Wow, those are some major yields on all the purchases you made. Over 6% on average is incredible. I definitely believe there are deals to be had in the energy space.

I'm not sure if you posted already but what are your plans with the BBL spinoff? I don't have much of it but it's gone down since the de-merger. They are planning on a dividend next year and commodities should recover at some point.

Anyways, take care and keep up the good work, you are killing it!

    1. AAI,

I continue to like energy names as well even though I am deep in the red right now. As far as the SOUHV shares, I have been watching them lose a little bit of value each day. :-) I will probably just hang on to them as see what happens dividend-wise in the future.

  2. MDP,

This atmosphere is awesome. So do you still like BBL and are OK with their ability to pay and increase their dividend? Curious on your thoughts with that MDP. Also - hand over a few grand this way so I can invest, I'm dying over here!!! Nice work.

    1. Lanny,

I don't know that I am OK with anything to do with BBL as long as oil prices continue to slide. As far as handing over a few grand to you, I just revisited your savings and investing patterns and you look like you are doing GREAT!!! :-)

  3. RDSb getting beat up hard lately. Those yields are looking really impressive if they are sustainable which I think they probably are when you look at the company history.

    1. Adam,

I think the dividend is sustainable right now as well. Anything can happen though so it is essential to stay well diversified.

  4. Solid purchases here MDP. I recently added to my XOM position and my DRIP is on for pretty much all of my energy related plays. I wouldn't mind adding more to either TROW or adding another asset manager but I also want to add to my new Canadian bank holdings BNS and TD. Both of those will be solid long term holdings and eventually the USD won't be so strong so I'll get a boost to the "dividend growth" as the FX levels out with the CDN. Lots of solid purchases here as usual.

    1. PIP,

I have been looking hard at TD as well. If it drops closer to $40 I will probably add to my position. XOM is unfortunately the smallest of my oil positions and I need to rectify this. It is by far the best company within the group. It just hasn't fallen as far as the others and for good reason.

  5. Big yields in the energy space. And you're brave enough to keep buying. I bet you'll look great at the end, even if there's some turbulence along the way here. I admire your consistency.

    1. BGH,

The energy side of my portfolio is bruised and battered, but that's ok. I will keep adding here and there. It is good to see some other sectors coming down in price finally.

  6. Wow, those are great purchases securing fantastic yields. I wish I had more bucks available to invest in several stocks. As it is, I'll have to choose carefully among many great candidates!

  9. D4S,

Thanks! Energy continue to get hammered and I will try to keep adding to the sector even though I am a bit heavy in it right now. Maybe I will buy something safer like GM. :-)

  10. High yield energy is where it's at. Looks like you'll be getting more opportunities to buy going forward. That CVX yield is starting to look too good to be true. Time for me to jump on the energy train?
